BMW Z3, 2.2, 2002

Does anyone know the BMW OEM Pt No for the hose that runs between the top of the radiator and the top of the 'top up/over flow' water bottle.........please see pics.

I'm afraid that there had been a 'weeping' leak in the joint that lays on top of the air filter and solid plastic pipe. I unfortunately over tightened the hose clip and snapped the solid plastic pipe in half :bashhead::bashhead:

I've just been to two BMW garages; and both are struggling to locate the details on the damaged hose.....they can only trace the details on the hose that runs to the base of the over flow water bottle.:(

I have now been requested to send the attached pics to BMW.............but I was hoping someone may be able to beat them to an answer. :)

Cheers Brian......this is the one that both BMW garages found............but it appears to be the wrong shape and is shown entering the base of the expansion bottle :(

Hopefully its a 'generic' drawing.........one of the BMW garages is ordering the part in, but was not confident :(

I'll see what arrives tomorrow..........fingers crossed.

Many thanks

The drawing are pretty decent most of the time, the part number above is a common part for the 6cyl cars, I think this is the same number as the link you posted.

Good luck

Isn't that the part number marked on the pipe in the first picture?

Please see my comment in posting no. 4 :). Both BMW garages were unsure about this Pt No. as their computer diagram looked completely different.

I have just collected the hose and can confirm that Pt No B11.53.1.436.122 is the correct item :):):)

Sorry to jump on this thread but as fate would have it, the plastic pipe more or less disintegrated as I was moving it to put the air box back in. That wouldn't have been so bad but when I tried to repair by putting a washing machine inlet hose over the broken end that just crumbled too......and so it went on until eventually I was left with about 5 inches from the expansion tank and a nub going to the radiator!!
I plan to make a temporary repair until I can get some more.....and that is to take what's left of my washing machine hose and connect it directly from the expansion tank to the radiator by use of jubilee clips.
On Monday I'll get the replacement.....
Any problems with this??

@dva99999 You should use 8mm copper tube bent to shape and use two jubilee clips to connect into the rubber hoses either end. I did this for @Shortie_gal 's Vixen when the plastic went brittle. Worked very well and was replaced when the new part arrived from an eBay seller. very easy to do as well.

Photo showing how easy it is to fabricate. Just use you fingers and warm the pipe as you bend it.

The copper got really hot in the bay area so I've wrapped it in silicon tape. I had to buy 10m of it though as I could not get any from elsewhere at short notice!!!

@dva99999 It will get as hot as the plastic did but due to the better heat transfer of copper it just feels hotter. If it is that hot I would look at the cause. I hope the engine is running ok and within temperature. When was the last coolant change ? and what mileage on the existing water pump ?

It's not unbearably hot. It was more of an excuse to put the silicon on it. I did a proper coolant flush last week, and the temperature goes up and stays just this side of centre. I've a habit of looking at the temperature gauge as I had an E34 525i that used to go into to the red until I changed the thermostat on that.
Many journeys were interrupted to let the temperature go down!! Now it's just second nature.
I'm not sure how old the thermo and water pump is on the Zed but it is on my growing list of things to do.

Well depending upon your mileage, I did mine at 86k and the cooling pump bearing felt it was starting to go. So above 80k I would say, move it up the list.
