Hi folks, looking for some opinions please.

I have stripped the car down as it is currently away for a few weeks being resprayed.

I have th door cards and they are currently the red interior colour on the centre part. In my opinion it looks tatty and faded. I am thinking of painting this section black.

I have bought flexible vinyl paint (spray) and have degreaser and cloths and I have some sandpaper.

Firstly, is it easy to take this section off to paint it and then reattach?

Secondly, any tips on the process of painting it i.e. Sanding etc?

Thanks

I think @Sean d may be the bloke to offer you some tips on leather refurb and colour changes...Although can't remember if he did his door cards, he did a superb job with an old pair of seats.

The door card insert is leather so you will need leather colourant, check out some vids on youtube for tecnique, leather clinic do great products that work very well, to get the best result you really need to remove the insert, they are fixed via tabs that are melted over, remove the melted parts and pull them away, to refit you can use very small screws and hot gun glue, I did mine blue, but you will be able to get the red that you need from FC

Thanks @Sean d how did you get to the little screws, do you take the plastic trim part at the top of the leather off? Also, what type of sandpaper did you use?

Is it just a case of rubbing it down, cleaning it and then using the colourant?

The other option I was looking at was to take them off and re cover them. Thoughts?

Do you have any pics of your door cards to see the condition they are in?

The reason I ask > I got my door cards and centre console recovered 5 years ago in black leather leaving the red centre section on the doors as was - cleaned and protected with autoglym leather care products overall and they look great - slightly more expensive than a DIY refurb but well worth the spend of £150 for an interior transformation.

Did my card inserts in situ didn't fancy melting the fasteners. Easy to mask up.

Yes, I removed the trim and painted it piano black, the screws I used where self tapper that I shortened with a grinder.

@DavidM they aren't to hand at the moment but they are in reasonably good condition. Am I understanding you right that you recovered the entire door cards and centre console in black leather for £150? Did you do it yourself?

@Sean d thank you for all your help so far. Your interior looks tremendous. I love the piano black!!

I have the annoying issue of a rip in the drivers seat bolster nearest the door. Any advice on this by any chance?

If I could get this sorted I would like to dye the seats too but obviously no point doing this until it's repaired!

Ps. @DavidM the reason I am asking is that seems brilliant and I would definitely be interested in doing something like that. I just thought it would have cost a fortune!! Do you have any pictures of your interior I could see?

Thanks

@Zooropa - I didn't chance a DIY. I've noticed I posted 150 instead of £250 - sorry about that. I paid too an extra £40 to have the centre console tray repainted to complete the project. Hope this helps.

I will get some photos taken and uploaded late morning.

I am always very impressed with what some of our members achieve with their DIY interior refurbs, there's a few detailed on the forum, personally its one of those areas that scares the heck out of me, mainly because I cant use a hammer doing it
Two spring to mind, Sean's and another done in two tone tan (sorry cant remember who's it was but it was great). The only one I have see in person is Sean's and I was quite frankly blown away, he has done a remarkable job. But it does go to show what amazing results can be achieved quite cheaply with some vision and hard work. Good luck with your interior refurb.

I had 2 bolsters sewn in for £80 for the 2,
Heres what I started with, this was the better of the 2 seats

Like the leather, are the aircon/ASC switches sitting up a bit?
