engine symbol

Today my wife came home in the z3 and said there is a warning light

had a quick look at the dash and it is the engine symbol

The car has not been used for 3 weeks just standing in the drive.

Any idea ?

i have a B800 tool will this be any good for reset if not what is a good very cheep tool to look for getting.

I have the same one you have linked from eBay and it works well for a range of codes. It is limited for some things like the abs which it will not read, but for a cheap code reader its pretty good. Nice and easy to use and codes can easily be reset. If you want one that will do a bit more and can read abs codes then these are pretty good.

I have the C110 and it will read the ABS and stuff but only if you use the round adapter

I have the round adapter from the B800

Now have C110 , plunged it in, worked great, no more engine symbol.

was the exhaust lambda sensor, i take it because the car had been sitting for 3 weeks in the damp rain ?

reset it, and it has not came back on.

My C110 arrived yesterday in the mail, finally! If it ever stops storming maybe I'll even get a chance to use it, not that I have any particular problems, just the air bag light on since it arrived. Seems fairly easy to use which I need with not a lot of high tech terminology to try to understand. JIM

This engine light came on again , took out the C 110, connected it

The screen has pixelised and is unreadable

1. can anybody help me by telling me what buttons to press i.e ok then down 4 times thats you at z3 press ok down etc.etc.
so i can clear all codes for now till i get a new one.
I seen this one on e-bay looks a bit more substantial, anybody got one, and is it as good as the c110 ?

I see it said on the titles Z3 but on the advert it said

scanner coverage :

All BMW petrol cars from 2001

All BMW diesel cars from 2004
plus all other OBD2 cars

*this scanner cover 13 protocols , it work for some cars earlier then these year , but only for some models , please ask us if you need scanner for earlier models . we will tell you if this scanner work for it or not

Which lambda was throwing up the fault sensor 1 or 2 . More than likely your light back on as the same sensor giving the fault if so the sensor should be replaced this time as you already cleared it and light back on

To be honest i don't know, but i found the instructions in the back of the bag and worked out how to cancel the light.

the instructions were all mold so this explains the screen fault

need to get a new one and not keep it in the car this time.
