Well done low rider,:thumbsup:I got mine out to clean it and ended up doing fifty miles under the blue sky here, hit some really muddy puddles from last nights rain so Z went back in my lockup even more dirty.:( Did manage to move mirrors in and out thanks to a week of WD40 soaking, first movement of mirrors in ten years of ownership.:)New years resolution, no dirty Zs to be left in the lockup and use WD40 more regular.

Hi Roy.

Isn't that the way when you own a Z clean it then take her out as a proud dad only to bring her back happy but dirty. LoL
Why do we do it, R i remember now. Can't wait to get mine back on the road as the MOT looms.

Nice to hear your door mirror works after 10yrs as I need to do mine before replacing the door and moving the mirror over to the new door

Just get your WD40 in there befor you try and move it, last week mine was solid and I was dreading putting any weight behind them today, but the faith was with me. Lol  At least you did something constructive.

I'm not sure I was constructive as i now need to sort out the shut lines bumper to wing both sides and the offside head light but it looks better than the old one.

Where in the door mirror did you spray. Was it base up the shaft or did you take the cover off to get better access

and the offside head light
Don't forget the headlights them selves have adjusters for the gaps around the panels too Steve so may not be the panel (bumper) alone that needs adjusting.

Tony the head lights have been changed and as yet not set up to mot standards because I wanted to change the bumper and at the last minute there she is. Once the panels are a lined then I'll take the Z3 for a pre mot to set the headlights up correctly. As i don't driver the Z at night it hasn't been a problem.

I'm not talking about the headlight alignment here mate, the headlight mounting points also have adjustment in them to align the fitting gaps with the bonnet and panels. Have a look at @Sean d thread .

Thanks I didn't know that and it will come in handy. Someone put a ///M bumper on my 2.2 and the gaps and headlights are not quite right. This has been driving me crazy :bashhead: @Low Rider will you please post a brief process to remove the bumper and things to look out for and such? I am hesitant to remove it as previous pix I have seen are unclear. I will be by myself :(

Cheers.

Hi fellas, first of all, HNY to you all.
When I found my mirrors just didn't want to move even after putting a lot of pressure on them I decided to try and get some WD40 down in the mechanism under the Swivel line,(which if you put a little twisting motion on the mirror you'll notice there's a joint just above where it mounts on door) if you spray a little WD40 on the mounting above this joining line and watch the WD40 run down you'll notice it disappeared through this joint instead of running all the way down the door panel itself, this tells you it's getting to the lower mechanism, just how much you'll not be too sure but after doing mine three times over the week I decided to give it a little try and bingo without breaking moved it all the way in, lubed it again a few more times and worked it in and out, now it finally works as it should.(that's both sides). I'm sure if I was too heavy handed i could easily break the mech, and the're not easy to replace or find, that's why I left mine to soak for a week. Good luck
PS; I can now walk round my Z in the lockup without pulling my belly in and holding my breath, jobs a good en.lol

I have never even tried to move mine on either car, I'm surprised that the 4 doesn't have electrically folding mirrors to be honest

Well Tony, I can tell you now I really thought I was stuck with them as they were, but decided to try, I bet Andy could tell a story or two about trying to get them off the cars he's dismantled, worth a try, may the faith be with you.
PS; This house has been like a mad house today, just said goodbye to them all, got in trouble twice today for being on here, but dare I say, "It's always worth it".=))

Roy, this is exactly what I did with mine before sending her off for her respray. When I first got her I didn't realise they folded as they were so tight. That was 4 years ago. So I used the WD40 trick as well, the only difference was I used a bank card to lift the mirror off the base to get the WD40 in.

Your Z looks great, that's one hellofa nice colour @Mint.
Funny cos I thought the mirrors didn't move either and was crapping myself trying to shift em. Just think what it would be like trying to drive it without either mirror if you broke one off.------------

Roy.

Cheers Roy. I have @Grumpy to thank for letting me see how the mirrors were supposed to fold. We were on a trip out in November and we were discussing Zeds (as you do) and I mentioned mine didn't move.......the rest is history;)

So.... Thanks @Grumpy
