It looks like the DNA and Tribute GRP dashboards slot on top of the original Z3 dash.

Does anyone have info about how that is done? After the z3 binacle and passenger airbag is removed is the remainder of the z3 dash stay intact or is it cut up before attaching the GRP?

Is it possible to do this without removing the z3 dash from the car.

Mine was a Tribute dashboard. It didn't go on top. The original dashboard had to be cut along the back and I used fibreglass to join the two pats together.

This is from my build...

Ask @Jezza. He has a video of how the DNA one is done (or at least multiple pictures).

With my one I had to remove the entire BMW dash, offer up the GRP one to it, then cut the BMW one just in front of the dash vent ductwork all the way along. The GRP dash then fits over what is left of the BMW item and I screwed them together with black self tappers.
The whole lot is then fixed to the car using the three existing screws just under the windscreen. They are a PITA to get in and out as there ain't much room to get anything in there to undo them or do them back up.

When I realised how mine needed to be fixed I thought it would look terrible with a lump of GRP plonked on top of the remains of the Z3 dash but when I painted both parts to match it looks good IMO.

BTW I didn't keep the face/ window vent ductwork. I ripped it out and blanked the outlet.

Try Ian Castle at ClassicCoachWorks. He has fitted lots and lots of different dashes on their builds.

Thanks. I might. But I don't like bothering people with 'free-bee' questions when it's the kind of thing they do for a living.
A quick convo would be ok. I'm sure it might generate a little bit of business which would suit him and you. They are busy but approachable. Even if it takes a while to respond.

I bought my kobra dash from them and they have other models too similar or not the same as tribute (being their agent). DNA probably not.

One idea is a tribute 250 dash modified to look more series 1 507-ish.

But option #2 is to remove passenger airbag etc and chop off the front of the z3 dash but to keep much of the z3 dash dials/binnacle. Overlaying the top to make it flat and mocking up the front with GRP panel to look kinda Series 2 507-ish

Here's a series 2 507 dash to remind you

and, below, what I reckon I can do given a few (quite a few) dark winter evenings while her in doors is watching chefs or some other drivel on telly

The original z3 analog dials might look OK if framed by a nice classic wheel. But keeping the original dials makes it much easier from a wiring point of view.

Yes. That is an Android tablet in the middle. As well as ICE I reckon I can tap into the diagnostics bus to show all manner of real time data. I'd enjoy doing that.

Looking at the 507 of the day compared to, say, ferrari 250 Cali the german grand tourers were quite boring/plain inside whereas the Italians believed in the direct corelation between number of dials and the size of ones trousers.

I always fancied bigger pants so as a 3rd option I wonder what a 507 inspired rebody would look like sporting a fully loaded ferrero dash.

Ian Castle at ClassicCoachWorks. He works closely with ETB as has installed lots of different style dashes and instrument styles. Im sorry if I am advocating them too strongly ?

Be aware of the clocks. They are inductive, and your body needs a good earth (lick your finger and touch the car body, and lick the finger adjusting the clock) for them to advance to the right time. They don't go backwards, so if you overshoot, disconnect the battery until the real time catches up, or scroll forward 11 hours and 50 something minutes.

Also, they draw a ridiculous amount of current (180mA) to stay live. They flatten a battery in a fortnight.

I swapped mine for an ETB voltmeter.

I've been meaning to swap mine for a Voltmeter for months and months. I don't want to take the flipping dash out to do it though (am lazy in my old age).
