Hi all

After new water pump, another new thermostat, coolant, belt and pully a few weeks back I thought car was running sweet.

Used a coolant vacuum to refill the coolant and all seemed perfect.. however.

The car will tick over in the drive no problem, as soon as I take it out for a long run.. I get home pull up on the drive with the engine started and all good, as soon as I take the keys out of the ignition and the engine is off I hear coolant leaking.

Open the bonnet and it’s coming from the radiation cap? If I release the pressure with the bleed valve it stops?

The car dosent overheat the temp gauge sits bang in the middle, get nice hot air from the heater? No white gunk on the oil filler cap?

Do I have a faulty radiator cap? still got air in the system? I’m lost..

please help 🙂

If you haven't changed the pressure cap it would be my next port if call. When you pull up is it already losing coolant (and pressure) or does happen after a few seconds?

I have ordered a new cap should be here in the week, no it’s not leaking until the engine is off??

Even sitting at the lights it’s all good, only when I turn the engine off

?!?!

Are you over filling the reservoir, the engine gets hotter when you turn it off because the coolant isn't being circulated by the water pump so it sits in situ in a very hot engine block. If you are over filling then the water expands and has to go some where. If not over full the new cap should fix it.

That's my 2 cents.
Cheers

I would think half way would be about right, it is for most vehicles.

Thats what I was getting at, that it is static expansion which is causing the overflow of coolant when the motor is no longer circulating the coolant. Try letting it sit and throw out whatever it wants and after cooling check the level.

Raised the car in the air again, ran it up to temp with the heater on... put bleed screw and cap back on.

revved it at 2500 for 5 mins, and turned it off, released cap and bleed screw and massaged pipes, and put them back.

car back on up to temp heater blowing nice and hot, turned car off and repeat the above.

took it off the ramps and thrashed it up the a43 got home onto the drive engine off and... nothing.

let’s hope it’s fixed 🙂 what a nightmare never had this issue bleeding a car before.

If it’s not fixed it I’m going to burn it out

Brought back memories of the first time I did mine - even took it to a mate's garage to have a cylinder head leak test in desperation.
Hope all ok - you'll know next time;)
