Water pump pully breaking up

3.0l Z3 when changing the water pump last week we discovered the pully was chipping on the inner edge so with the replacement delivered it was replaced today. Upon taking it out we found it had chipped even further. No evidence of it hitting anything and the old pump bearing was still good with no play in it that could have given it a wobble to cause any contact with the block and inflict the chipping. Can only put the damage down to degrading plastic, after all its over 20 years old!! Some pictures of the offending article. Might be wise to give yours a look and to keep an eye on this component.
