Having had the diff bush on the list for a while, it finally made its self a must do. Reversed on to the drive the other night and could hear a tinkling noise which i thought was one of the rear brakes. On inspection it was the dust shield on the diff input. The bush had collapsed enough to make it sit out of line an cause the noise.
Wasn't sure if i could fit it without dropping the rear end but it is possible.
The bush had torn and it virtually fell out when i removed it.

The diff drops low enough the only thing i found on getting clearence was that the passenger drive shaft was what fouled the exhaust. To get round this i found jacking the swing arm back in to the car made the diff drop clear.

The new bush was easy to fit and it only took 20 mins to get it all bolted back in and on the ground.tmp_13375-20160216_1705412065828431.jpg
On test drive the difference is fantastic all drivetrain play has gone no clunking at all it obviously was due to the movement in the diff mount and the gear change and power transfer is very positive.
Best £30 i have spent on the zed to be honest it feels like a different car to drive the orignal noise has gone and gear change and launch without hitch or clunk :)

Thanks guys it was clearer to see after i had the exhaust done as the back box is now smaller and the bush is a lot more visable. Recommend it anyone with a bit of a clunk i honestly thought it was the diff but its certainly not

Can't wait to see what a difference my Z will be once I've collected her from the Zed Shed.

Nice easy job and makes a big difference. The Powerflex is so easy to fit back in. The worst bit of the job is getting the metal surround from the old one out. 10/10 :)

Thanks Gaz as you say the center fell out and cutting the steel outer ring especially under the car was not easy but perseverance won through

Might get mine replaced when it's due for its service in the summer I don't have any symptoms like yours but at 19 years old it might need doing.
Do you have the part link please?
Tracy.

Yeah just cut through it will a hacksaw plade and it came out pretty easily after that. The new one just pushes in with your fingers it takes very little effort but you can see the difference it makes from under the car just bolting it in !
