Having finally got my head around @mike Fishwick how to guide on the modification of the air intake there are a couple of questions, and I apologise if I'm late to the party on this one.

On the lower intake what is the purpose of the blanking plate? I've managed to unclip it and wondered if I need to attach it to the extended part I've made up?
Having extended it, I've come to the conclusion that it may have been easier to cut the hole as per mikes instructions, but then attached a flexible hose like this

Is this what others have done?
Thanks

Hi I am in the process of fitting a Simota induction thing. My car has never really run right since I have had it and it does p*** me off. So coming home yesterday from the seaside car starts playing up. I don't have all the simota bits yet I thought I would strip the airbox and have a look.

I found a lot of dead foam that had started to make its way into the MAF so obviously not helping the running.

So stripped out the plastic frame and all the foam then thought why not cut a big hole in the air box to see what happens.

Then fitted a trumpet to it and put it back on the car

So two air intakes (why BMW put one over the rad when the same space/hole exits on the airbox side is baffling) Now Im not saying this is the way to go but it has certainly freed up the engine and at speed I can feel the car wanting to pull. Cant wait to get the simota on it now it does drive very differently now there is air getting to where it should.
