blimey, i'm amazed at halfords, i've not met anyone in there in recent years that I'd trust with a soldering iron, but then again I'd probably not let them near my cars at all!
Ha,ha, I know that feeling mate, we have to escapees from Halfords at our place. Mind you one of these guys is very handy at electrics in all fairness.:)

it's next to useless because all the wires appear to be the same length and also fitted with "crimp" type connectors. The wire joins need to be staggered
So then I would just pull each wire through by a different amount to stagger each joint....

That's a good idea if there's enough cable to do that without having to shorten the sleeve Pete, looking at the picture I would doubt there is. I had that loom "peeled" to inspect it on my Z3 when the c/l started to play up and as you'll know it's a fair length. Another point when using "crimps" the joints are a lot fatter than a soldered one with shrink tube on them.

Again, will be much more sensible to wait up until the loom has arrived and the job is assessed than guessing at it. Let's not people of a potential solution until the works been attempted, eh?

Hey Guys,

I cut away about 3 inches of the loom of doom to expose the wires and I was expecting to see some damage where the clip is on the loom [like others have shown]. The wires seem to be in perfect condition. Is there some way that I can seal up the exposed area? At the moment I have just wrapped it with tape. Can I use shrink wrap? I just don't see how to get that on without splitting it.

BTW the issue I have been experiencing is that the trunk sometimes will not lock or unlock and the CD Stacker dropped out a couple of times. When I wiggle the wires in the clipped area it temporarily fixed the issues.

Thanks.

@Cooper you might find that the wires have broken further down where they enter to boot or exit the main part of the zed. I would get a good waterproof wrap style tape and work you way around to form a good seal.

I have yet had a chance to do my repair as the temp fix and work are holding out.

You got me thinking and I did some research. They actually make a heat shrink tape that has an adhesive. Just wrap carefully and heat! Done.
