Hello, I bought a 1997 Z3 that won't start and need technical help. I bought it not running. It stopped running suddenly. It cranks over but doesn't start. It is the 1.9L M44 with an automatic transmission. Below is what I've done so far and the photos are of the camshaft timing tool sitting on the cams with the engine flywheel pinned at TDC which appears to still be in time. I have fuel pressure at the rail and fire at the spark plug and it cranks over smoothly with no odd sound. It will cough occasionally with starter fluid sprayed in the throttle body. Again, it stopped running on the PO suddenly. With fuel at the rail and fire at the spark plug, it seems it may be out of time. Am I correct at believing it hasn't jump time if the camshaft timing tool fits on the camshaft at TDC? What am I missing or what should I check next?
*Have NOT replaced the
*Replaced crank and camshaft sensors
*Replaced fuel injectors
*Tested injector pulse with Noid light, all 4 flash when cranked, proves original Bosch DME/ECM is telling new injectors to provide fuel
*Engine turns over fine
*At least some fuel pressure at the rail. When I press the test port on the fuel rail it squirts fuel before and during cranking

Not overly keen to fuel injection systems but it seems like it would start and die like a carburetor engine or do more than cough occasionally by spraying starter fluid in the throttle body. Am I wrong?
** fuel pressure not tested
**fuel pressure regulator on front of fuel rail not replaced
**engine compression not tested, quit running suddenly

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Maybe someone will step up here soon and give us some solid guidance.
