New Z3 owner with a couple of questions (roof and roll bar)

Hi I've just bought a low mileage 2.0 Z3 73000 full history .In good order with nice red and black sports seats only the odd bodywork blemish

It hasn't any roll bars and I wanted to know if two retaining tubes were present under these bumps to accept the after market roll bars with one attachment point on each side if I cut a hole.
I know to get the real bars 2 attachments are needed per side with the middle two having to be bolted on

Hi @mister p yes you can insert those bars into the fittings on your car. Sometimes they are very tight to get all the way in but patience and some persuasion seem to work as many members are using them. As for the window, I have one but as yet have not assembled it. The thing I liked best about it is there is no use of contact cement or glues which can prove very messy as well as leave a less than perfect finish. These use a strong two sided tape which is much cleaner and easier to use for the average person. All repro windows are made to OEM specs so fit is usually perfect unless the top frame has been tweaked at some point. You are best to use two people. I found this co. very easy to deal with and their video is well made. Good luck and welcome from Canada! JIM

Not sure what the story is in Europe, but in the US I think that cars that did not come equipped with the roll bar did not have the fittings on the body either.
What year is your car?

The factory roll bars were optional in 97 standard in 98 as far as I am aware.

Thanks the car is an X plate 2000. I thought the lateral outside tubes were present.But some of the car without bars had a circular defined cut out area whereas mine (pictured )don't. I don't want to go the whole hog and change centre boxes etc to put the real ones on.

You should just need a hole saw on a drill to cut the opening and you'll need to take those ends off to get the insulation out of them to get clearance for the pipes. JIM

I fitted this type of bar on my 2000 W Reg. If I remember correctly when you remove the plastic cover which the tubes pass through you will see the mounting holes into which they fit which are part of the chassis. ( I needed help from my son to get the second end in and had to wait all day for him to come home) The under side of the plastic had a moulding of the outline for the hole needing to be cut. Hope that makes sense.

@mister p I had my entire interior stripped out this winter and I enclose a picture which may help and give some indication of whats underneath regarding the hoops as I had to remove them to replace the centre storage bin.

Just to add, you should remove your seats first then disconnect your battery but not before getting your radio code if it has one! Jim

I didn't remove my seats when I fitted my roll hoops. Just moved them forward as far as they'd go, and did the job no probs. I changed all the plastics as well as fitting OEM hoops
