just out of interest what tyres do you members run, I am looking to put a set on and wondered what to get. I can't afford Michelin or continental as I am getting short on funds now after what its cost me on this rebuild but I really don't want to go down the budget route, having said that I've never had any problems on other cars I've run with budget. My rears I've been informed are 255/35 18 and fronts are 225/40 18.

Run mine on Falcons, not as expensive as some but not economy. I paid £70 a corner, transformed the handling. Had them on a couple of years now about 7k no signs of any wear!

I've been quoted for Avon £107 rear and £79 front all in. I felt this was not to bad.

Hankook Ventus on mine. Great tyre for the money, quiet, good on fuel efficiency and apparently excellent in the wet, but I wouldn't know about that .

I'm running 225/40/18 front, 255/35/18 rear.
Have Avon ZZ5 all round. Happy with the grip and handling in the wet and dry.

I think that's what I've been quoted on Avon was and probably still are a good tyre. Think that's the way I'm going glad to hear from some one who is running them and in sizes I need.

Got my setup from National Tyres as I needed them on the day, as the wheels I was taking off (to do some work on the brakes) were to bad to put back on. Think I got the whole set for £360.

If I had more time and could of waited for the tyres I probably could have got them cheaper online and paid a local tyre place to fit them £10 a corner.

The usual places I buy tyres from are:

Avons all round for me also, 225 front and 255 rears, car runs great.

Used to have Avons, very happy with them, swapped to Falkens because Avon don't do the sizes I wanted in 19"s. Falkens very fine too, and plenty of wet roads here to try them on. The Z3 seems much happier on matching tyres all round, that's for sure.

I use rainmasters. Mostly because when I got the car, the front one were recent rainmasters and the back were oddballs (unmatched) brands. So I've put rainmaster at the back too..
Only problem is that the grooves are so deep they often pick stones, and carry them around 'clicking' until it drives me crazy enough to go manually locate and remove them.

Can't compare with normal non-rain tyres, but I have no noticeable tramlining and the car seems pretty well planted on the road, I really have to push it in corner/roundabouts to hear any sqweeking.

Don't worry about the deep grooves, you will soon wear them down.

I have uniroyals rainsport 3's and love them.
Great in all weather!
But directional so no good to swap sides if that's your thing.

Came back as they wore down, fitted another matching set and cured it again. There's something in the suspension set-up that makes the Z3 very sensitive, not a clue what it is. I've had a few cars over the 40-odd years I've been driving, five of them BMWs, and not had this before. Had a few motorbikes that got twitchy as the tyres wore down, but never cars.

As far as I've been led to believe on the Z3 the tramlining is the bushing on the suspension the oem rubber bushing is to soft and allows movement. I have now fitted powerflex bushing right through so will find out when I get back on the road. How ever I do think tyres play a significant part, I have a Landrover discovery land mark which has big wide wheels standard fit compared to normal disco it tramlined terrible when I got it. I changed the tyres as they were getting low and it cuered it.
