Write off....no way !!!

@Sean d .......That makes sense. Unfortunately I only got the information regarding the Amp rating, and assumed that because mine was rated at 90Amp it needed to be there.

Whats that old saying ...a little knowledge is a dangerous thing...?

Oh well its in now, so it wont do any harm!!! And I could always fit an aircon unit or a mobile welder =))

OR, you could fit an inverter in the boot, then you could be civilised when on a run and use an electric kettle Malc. you know like at home:thumbsup:

Tony.

Bit of tiding today, and found what at first I thought was a problem of a sheared off stud.

At the top of the gearbox...there seems to be a missing bolt. But then realised this was then starter motor solenoid
I managed to get a mirror in there and could see the end of a stud in the hole, but it doesnt look like its been sheared so I am assuming that this is just an alignment pin to locate the starter motor.
RealOem only shows two bolts, one you can just see, the other is just out of the picture
Can anyone confirm that this is not a fixing bolt, as I dont really want to have to remove the starter to sort it.

If you look carefully you can see the belt round the crank pulley is thicker (two belts) and also that there are 2 pensioners.

I think you’ll find that most Z3’s contain 2 pensioners.......and Z4’s are getting that way !!!

Just had a couple of bits delivered by the painter :):)

Front and Rear bumper covers looking really smart.....too good to leave in the garage so now speading out to the conservatory.

Not that I have told the wife yet, but I will reassemble all the parts in here and then after take them out to the garage to fit to the car. ( only because I cant get the car in here:whistle:)

Bonnet and bootlid should be finished tomorrow/monday .....happy days.

Today could have gone a bit easier :banghead:

Started off by removing the rear wheel arch covers. Didnt even have to remove the wheels so a good start. Then cleaned all the fixings and de-rusted them.

Cleaned the aluminium bumpers and carefully laid them into the bumper covers....all ok
Then got all the old plastic push fixings and washed them and installed them into the rear bumper. Some were a bit on the tight side but with a bit of pressure all were secured. At this stage thought it wouldnt take long to get the front bumper done.
The front bumper had all new fixings and every one was stiff and hard to push. Tried to carefully tap them in and gave up on that....crap idea !!!
So out came the silicon spray, but even with that couldn’t push the insert in.
So plan B.... used a small socket and a pair of plumbing grips and that worked !!
Until I had to sort the 4 located in the recess

So had to remove the plastic insert. Held on by 12 push on clips. I cut these off as I didnt want to damage the plastic studs.
Removing it gave me access and I could use the same method as before to install the 4 push clips.

There are also two plastic rivets in the centre of the bumper, so had to use a rivet gun. I was a bit nervous but worked ok

The plastic cover will have to be reinstalled tomorrow as ordered and reserved the 12 metal push on clips from local BMW. Luckily they had enough in stock at 0.24 ea
And just as well that I had a couple of spares of the plastic fixings as a couple of them ‘ didnt make it ’

Just been doing a bit of late night reading, just checking with RealOem that I haven’t missed anything.

And as usual I’m confused

Item 4 and all associated parts are for the Japanese market only....so thats ok
All the other numbers are ok except item 11 which is a ‘ Clip’ and it says there are 4 of them.
Can anyone tell me what they are for and where they go, as I have just looked at mine and dont appear to have them and cant see where they would go!!!!! I didnt take any off when it was stripped down.

This is the part

I think they are the clips that hold the bumper onto the rear wings. They fit in the keyhole shapes in the bumper so they could well be still in the rear wings

Thanks for your reply @Brian4 , just been out in the garage and checked all round the car and no clips.!!
My bumper doesnt have any keyhole shapes either.......would these be on a facelift version????

AH...stop press ......Just seen this note in Bentleys.......” 6 cylinder models push bumper down and towards the rear to release bumper locating clips”.

As mine is the 4 pot....dont think I have them. So RealOem is wrong !!!!!

I agree, they could also have broken when the bumper was removed. They are a bit tricky to fit until you get the knack. I had to fit new ones.

Those 4 clips are a pain in the ass, I bought a new set for the 2.8, they are so brittle and break very easily, I ended up making my own fitting kit

When I first removed my rear wings for respray, I didn't have replacement clips so I used pastic number plate bolts. I reasoned that in a minor accident the clips were designed to break so plastic bolts were better than metal. They fit quite easily.

Thats a very good point Mike, never considered what would happen during a bump

I am sure now that I dont have them on my car. Everyone that has posted about these clips all have 6 pot engines, which has convinced me that RealOem have got it wrong on their diagram for the 1.9 (4 pot).

By the sound of it just as well, as they appear to be a real pain !!!=))
