Trying to change the pads and discs on Bella, all stripped down but just cannot get the discs off. Handbrake cable adjusters have been backed off, handbrake is off, caliper carrier is off and hub retaining hex nut is off. Just will not move (FBH already used) Any top tips please? :arghh:

1. Is the disc moving at all? 2. It does look at bit crusty, smack it on the outer edge at the point the calliper fits, then half a turn and smack that side, repeat till it moves. 3. Make sure the parking brake shoe adjusters inside the drum are backed right off.

I would tap all around the drum of the disk think you may find it is a build up of crud between the hub and the disc you could try tapping from the rear of the disc to break the seal...

If you're not fitting new p/b shoes have areal good look to make sure the lining isn't starting to lift from the metal shoe, if that comes off it can wrap around the other shoe and lock the wheel, which can be very dangerous. If in any doubt put new ones on.

If you're happy with the shoes, rebuild the drums and adjust them before fitting calliper. Tighten the adjuster fully up till you can't turn the drum, tap round with a hammer to centralise the shoes and see if they will adjust any more. If not slacken the adjuster 1 click at a time till you can turn the drum, then 2 clicks more.

My brother uses copper grease or copper slip on metal to metal items also on all threads which makes undoing threads so much easier.

One more thing to consider Andy, is the removal of the hold down pins and springs. You will need a 5mm allen key to push in and turn the pins (1/4 turn either way) to release them from the back plate. A crude bayonet type of fitting. If you don't have a key to fit you can use thin nosed mole grips but the allen key is the better option as you can work through one of the wheel bolt holes. You could remove one and take it to get the correct size, but I think they are 5mm.If they are really badly corroded you can get fitting kits from such as Euro Car Parts or Andrew Page outlets.
