I'm going to fit new wishbones and drop links this weekend and may be even fit some new front brake discs. I had an advisory on the last MOT saying my discs were pitted and corroded, so I'm thinking I should change them while I have her jacked up. Also had advisory that my suspension bushes were "slightly" deteriorated.

It's been a few years since I've touched the suspension on any car but it looks a straight forward enough job. Is there anything I need to be wary of?

I've got a fairly comprehensive tool kit and until 10yrs ago I always did my own car maintenance but I'm a bit rusty.

I've got a couple of sets of decent axle stands and a couple of 3T trolley jacks.

One problem I'm going to have as far as I can see is wedging my fat arse between my Zed and my garage wall but it's something I'll have to live with.

I've had a quick look on Youtube and looked at a couple of videos and hopefully it will only take a few hours once she's jacked up.

Couldn't face red wine at 8.00am on Saturday morning. Might partake in some on Saturday evening though:cool:

I'm toying with the idea of changing my shocks this winter, ready for my next MOT as I've had a misting front shock on my last 2 x advisory's, so I'll be thinking of having a go myself :nailbiting:. I will keep a close eye on this thread, plenty of pictures will be interesting on watching your progress. Best of luck hope it all goes to plan.
Nifty

All my spares have arrived ready for a bit of DIY tomorrow. I haven't ordered new discs and pads yet, I want to have a good close look at the old ones. If they do need doing I'll order some off Ebay and fit them next weekend.

Went out for a few beers on Friday night and to be honest didn't fancy spending Saturday lying on my back underneath my car so the wishbones stayed in the box, and ......... been out again for another gallon tonight so it's a good bet it wont get done tomorrow either, but such is life .......
Might have a go next week;)

I tend to have some days like that too mate. Winter/backend weather doesn't do a lot for me these days.

I've got today and tomorrow off work so I'm finally going to get this little job done, plus a few "housey" jobs that need seeing to. I've also got to fit a new exhaust on the Merc too but that wont arrive until next weekend at the earliest.

I'll take some pics in case anyone is interested in seeing how a "bodger" does it =))

Only thing I'm concerned about is releasing the ball joints but I've got a big hammer and a wedgie type splitter so I should be ok.

See you later

Got one side off today in between a few other jobs but had a bit of a mishap, well two of them actually. First one, I broke drivers door mirror when I folded it in to allow me to squeeze past it in my garage. I've got a spare though so that's another job to add to the list.

Then when I was fitting the new trailing arm bush to the wishbone it was a tight fit so a I gave it a bit of help by banging it with a hammer and I cracked the cast bush housing. Just ordered replacements from Ebay.

I'll try and f**k up the other side tomorrow =))

Got to install a dish washer first so I better put Southwest Water on standby =))

Got the other side done today without any problems other than skinned knuckles and bruised forearms. Had to cut one of the nuts off the outer ball joint with my Dremel. It appears that the person who fitted the old ones centre punched the last thread which meant it wouldn't screw off. It's got me out of trouble a few times my old Dremel has.

I didn't get any pics unfortunately because my hands were really soiled and didn't want to dirty my phone.

Just got to wait for the replacement trailing bush to come so that I can finish the job and then I can book my MOT.

Oh and I've got to fix my drivers door mirror
